The China Research Centre (CRC) at UTS is one of the most productive and dynamic working on the development of China in Australia. Its focus rests on the exploration of social and cultural change in China with an interdisciplinary approach. The China Research Group also performs a leadership role in advancing Australian scholarship on China by serving as the host for the China Node of the ARC's Asia Pacific Futures Research Network. and is the NSW section of the China Law Network
The CRC's recent and forthcoming publications cover a range of pressing social, political and cultural issues in China's development. The flier outlining these books is available here (2007 and 2008).

The CRC has a number of research themes currently operating. These involve a program of guest speakers, collaborative projects with industry partners, a book series, as well as the individual research projects of IIS staff and students. They include:
Arts and Media in China: Transforming the Production of Ideas and Sciences Political and Economic Shifts in China: Domestic and International Pressures Gender and Social Change in China Provincial China: Local Identity, Place and Region Building a healthy region: Challenges for Health Reform in China Latin America and China: Evolving Relationships
The Provincial China theme also involves an annual Workshop held in various PRC provinces. In 2008 it will run from the 27th to 31st October, and will be held at Nankai University, Tianjin, P.R.C. The theme for 2008 will be ‘Social problems and the local welfare mix in China: Public policies and private initiatives’. Information on the program can be found here
